Mission:
The Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects protects the public from incompetence, misconduct, gross negligence, fraud, misrepresentation or dishonesty; licenses only "qualified" professionals by examination and evaluation of minimum competency; enforces standards by implementing legislation and administrative rules; and encourages economic development and partnerships with existing small businesses.
Function:
The Missouri Board for Architects, Professional Engineers, Professional Land Surveyors, and Landscape Architects' role is to protect the inhabitants of this state in the enjoyment of life, health, peace and safety, and to protect their property from damage or destruction through dangerous, dishonest, incompetent or unlawful architectural, professional engineering, or land surveying or landscape architectural practice, and generally to conserve the public welfare. The Board has the power to revoke, suspend, deny, probate and reinstate licenses.

Number of meetings: 4 meetings; 4 division meetings (minimum); approximately 14 conference calls
Location of meetings: Jefferson City, St. Louis, Kansas City, Springfield/Branson
Duration of meetings: 2-3 days (full board), 1 day (division); & 1-4 hours (conference calls)
Preparation time for meetings: 20 hours
Total time commitment: 20 hours per month

Compensation: Members receive a per diem not to exceed $50 for each day devoted to the affairs of the board and reimbursement for realized and necessary expenses.
Member Requirements: 1 chairperson, 3 members must be architects, 4 must be professional engineers, 3 must be land surveyors, 3 must be landscape architects, and 1 must be a public member; chair must be architect, engineer, or land surveyor . All members must be residents of Missouri for at least five years and engaged in the active practice as an architect, professional engineer, professional land surveyor or landscape architect as the case may be, for at least ten consecutive years immediately preceding such person's appointment and who is and has been a citizen of the United States for at least five years immediately preceding such person's appointment.
