Gov. Jay Nixon has appointed Sammye Gail White, of Ironton, to the position of Iron County circuit clerk. She will succeed Thelma June Miller, who passed away earlier this year.

White, a Democrat, has served as interim circuit clerk since July after being appointed by Presiding Judge Kelly Parker. She has been with the circuit clerk's office since 2000 in positions of progressively greater responsibility, including chief deputy clerk.

"The position of circuit clerk is one of great responsibility for the efficient administration of our circuit courts," Gov. Nixon said. "Gail White has shown her capability in this office for several years, and has ably served as the interim circuit clerk for three months. I am confident she will serve the people of Iron County capably in her new position."
