Gov. Jay Nixon today appointed Mary Ann Viorel, of Hannibal, as the new collector for Marion County. She will succeed her husband, Lee J. Viorel, the former collector, who passed away on Aug. 28.

Ms. Viorel, a Democrat, has worked as a manager for TRI-V Investments LLC in Hannibal. She previously worked for former Cong. Harold Volkmer from 1976 to 1996. Ms. Viorel has been active in community and church activities in Hannibal.

"I greatly appreciate the fiscal diligence that Lee Viorel provided to the taxpayers of Marion County during his three terms as their collector," Gov. Nixon said. "I am confident that Mary Ann Viorel will be able to continue that fine level of service to the people of this county."

Mary Ann Viorel is running unopposed for a full term in the November general election.
