Jefferson City, MO

Gov. Jay Nixon today appointed Charles R. (Chuck) Wooten, of Nixa, to the Missouri Veterans' Commission. The Missouri Veterans' Commission was established by state statute to aid all veterans, their dependents, and legal representatives by providing information regarding the rights of veterans and their dependents, and to assist veterans in accessing their available benefits through the state and federal government. The commission operates seven State Veterans Homes, five State Veterans Cemeteries, and the Veterans Services Program.

A World War II veteran, Wooten served on the Springfield City Council from 1982 to 1988 before being elected as state representative for the 137th district, a position he held for five terms. The Governor has appointed Wooten for a term ending Nov. 2, 2015.
