Gov. Nixon names New Madrid municipal judge as new Associate Circuit Judge for New Madrid County

Gov. Jay Nixon today named Joshua D. Underwood, of New Madrid, to serve as an Associate Circuit Judge for New Madrid County. Underwood will fill the vacancy created by the resignation of the Honorable Charles Spitler.

Underwood operates a private practice in New Madrid, where his practice includes family, criminal, real estate and probate law. He currently serves as municipal judge for New Madrid, and formerly was the city attorney for Marston. A native of Portageville, Underwood earned his law degree at Mississippi College School of Law and his undergraduate degree from Mississippi State University. He is a trustee of the New Madrid Historical Museum. 

"Josh Underwood has practiced law in New Madrid County and has lived here for much of his life," Gov. Nixon said. "I am pleased to appoint him to the bench in the 34th Circuit to serve the people of this county."
