Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff in Webster County on Thursday to honor firefighter who died in line of duty

Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Missouri at all state government buildings in Webster County be flown at half-staff on Thursday (July 25) in honor of Lt. Matthew Blankenship, of the Marshfield Fire Protection District.

Lt. Blankenship, age 38, died on July 20 of injuries sustained in the line of duty while fighting a structure fire on July 13 while serving the citizens of the Marshfield Fire Protection District. He was a four-year veteran of the district.

Under Gov. Nixon's order, U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in Webster County will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset on Thursday, the day the funeral services for Lt. Blankenship will take place.
