Gov. Nixon appoints University City attorney Thomas Prebil as circuit judge in 21st Circuit

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the appointment of University City attorney Thomas J. Prebil to fill a vacancy for circuit judge in the 21st Circuit, which encompasses all of St. Louis County. The position became available upon the retirement of the Honorable Bernhardt C. Drumm Jr.

Prebil has practiced law in the St. Louis metropolitan area for 37 years, most recently with Schlichter, Bogard & Denton LLP. His experience has included criminal and civil trial work, family court cases, adoptions, probate and juvenile court matters. He has written briefs and argued appeals in the Missouri Supreme Court and state and federal appellate courts.

Prebil earned his undergraduate degree from St. Louis University in 1968 and his law degree from St. Louis University School of Law in 1971. A veteran of the U.S. Army Reserves, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in 1971, served on active duty between 1971 and 1972, and received an honorable discharge as a captain in 1980.

Prebil was one of three applicants submitted to the Governor for consideration by the 21st Circuit Judicial Commission under the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan.
