Gov. Nixon orders flags to half-staff in Lafayette County to honor fallen firefighter
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon has ordered that the flags of the United States and the State of Missouri at all state government buildings in Lafayette County, Mo., be flown at half-staff tomorrow (March 20, 2009) in honor of Lt. William Roger Vorwark, of the Odessa Fire Rescue Protection District.
Lt. Vorwark, 49, died in the line of duty on March 14, 2009, while fighting a natural cover fire. He had served as a volunteer firefighter in Mayview, Mo., for 22 years, before transferring to the Odessa Fire Rescue Protection District in 2004. He became a full-time firefighter in May 2008.
Under Gov. Nixon's order, U.S. and Missouri flags at state buildings in Lafayette County will fly at half-staff from sunrise until sunset tomorrow, the day the funeral services for Lt. Vorwark will take place.
