Gov. Nixon appoints Mark D. Pfeiffer to judgeship on Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. -- Gov. Jay Nixon today announced his appointment of Mark D. Pfeiffer, of Columbia, age 41, to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District. Pfeiffer will fill a vacancy on the Court created by the retirement of Judge Ronald R. Holliger.

Pfeiffer is a shareholder and attorney with the firm of Bley & Pfeiffer in Columbia, specializing in civil litigation. Prior to joining the firm in 1995, he was an associate with Farrington & Curtis in Springfield, now a part of Husch Blackwell Sanders. He held summer clerkships with both Knight, Ford, Wright, Atwill, Parshall & Baker in Columbia and with Ernst & Young in St. Louis.

"In his years of practice as an attorney, Mark Pfeiffer has ably represented his clients before courts at both the trial and appellate levels," Gov. Nixon said. "He has shown a superb knowledge of and respect for the law, and I am confident he will serve the people of Missouri well on the appellate court."

In addition to his practice, Pfeiffer has been actively involved in the Missouri Bar and the Boone County Bar Associations. He served on the Missouri Bar Board of Governors from 1998 to 1999 and the Commercial Law Committee from 1998-2000. He has been a member of the state bar's Legislative Review and Tort Law committees since 1997. He also has served the Boone County Board of Jail Visitors since 1998, and he is a past member of the Boone County Bar's Practice and Procedure and Nominating committees. He was treasurer of the Boone County Bar in 1998.

Pfeiffer earned a bachelor's degree in accounting, magna cum laude, from Westminster College in 1989. He earned his juris doctorate from the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Law in 1991. During law school, Pfeiffer served as a graduate teaching assistant for undergraduate accounting courses at the University of Missouri.

In the community, Pfeiffer has been a volunteer with the Columbia Public Schools Moot Court Program, the Daniel Boone Little League Youth Baseball Program, the Missouri United Methodist Church, the Crossing Evangelical Presbyterian Church and the Ronald McDonald Charities.

Pfeiffer was one of three nominees for this judgeship submitted to Gov. Nixon by the Appellate Judicial Commission for the Missouri Court of Appeals, Western District, under the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan.
