Gov. Nixon makes appointments to Citizens' Commission on Compensation
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon today announced he has appointed 12 Missourians to the Missouri Citizens' Commission on Compensation for Elected Officials. The commission establishes the compensation for state elected officials, members of the General Assembly, and judges (except for municipal judges). The appointees are listed below, along with their hometowns.
- Robert Barrett - Nevada;Vicki Benson - Kirksville;
- Patricia Bolz - Kirksville;
- Bill Burch - Sikeston;
- Judith Davidson - Cottleville;
- Phylis Lee Gilbert - Springfield;
- Julie Hurst - Tarkio;
- Jerry King - Butler;
- Don Mills - El Dorado Springs;
- Thomas Shrout Jr. - St. Louis;
- Paul H. Walle - Manchester; and
- Dr. Terry Winkler - Miller
Barrett (R) is the president of Heritage State Bank in Nevada, and the owner/operator of Red Rock Angus. He is a member and former president of the Vernon County Cattlemen's Association and a member of the American Angus Association.
Benson (D) has worked as a realtor associate for Heritage House Realty since 1989. She is also a current member of the Missouri Association of Realtors, the National Association of Realtors, and the Northeast Central Missouri Board of Realtors.
Bolz (R) is the president of Patty's University Bookstore. She is an American Legion Auxiliary -Missouri Girls State committee member.
Burch (D) is the owner of Burch Food Services, a vending/food service company which employs 135 people serving businesses and industries in southeast Missouri, southern Illinois, northwest Tennessee and northeast Arkansas.
Davidson (D) is employed by the United Food and Commercial Workers Union, Local 655. She currently serves as vice president, executive assistant to the president, political director and pension co-chair.
Gilbert (D) has been chairman and CEO of Central States Bancshares in Nevada, which owns Webb City Bank. He has been in the banking business in western and southwest Missouri since 1952.
Hurst (R) is the owner of Hurst Greenery in Westboro, a business she started with her husband in 1986. She, her husband and other family members raise corn and soybeans on Hurst Farms.
King (R) is a lifetime family dairy farmer who represented the 125th District in the Missouri House of Representatives from 1998 to 2004.
Mills (R) owns and operates a 700-acre beef cattle farm. He is currently serving as chairman of the Board of Directors of MFA Inc.
Shrout (D) recently retired as the executive director of Citizens for Modern Transit. He currently operates Avvantt Partners, which provides consulting services to public transit and not-for-profit organizations.
Walle (R) is a human resources consultant who was previously employed in various human resources leadership capacities with Monsanto, Libby-Owens-Ford, and Fisher-Price. Most recently he served as vice president of human resources with Spartan Light Metal Products Inc., in St. Louis.
Dr. Winkler (D) is a physician in private practice with Ozark Area Rehabilitation Services in Willard. He is board certified in physical medicine and rehabilitation.
