Statement from Gov. Nixon on passage of bill to provide states with resources for health care, education
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jay Nixon today issued the following statement, following the passage of H.R. 1586 by Congress to provide states with resources for health care and education:
"I am appreciative that Congress and the White House recognize that the states are facing ongoing fiscal challenges to provide essential services. While not a solution to all those challenges, the federal funding we will receive through this bill will allow us to continue moving forward with the economic recovery already underway.
"We will continue to keep Missouri state government on the course of fiscal responsibility and sound management that we have followed since my first day in office. In the coming weeks and months, we will work with legislative and education leaders to discuss how this extension of stabilization funding can help us continue on the road of long-term economic recovery and growth."
The Division of Budget and Planning estimates that Missouri will receive $209.3 million in health care resources and $189 million for education over the next year.
