Gov. Nixon appoints Kirksville attorney as Adair County prosecuting attorney
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon today appointed Matthew J. Wilson as the prosecuting attorney for Adair County. Wilson, a Democrat, replaces Mark Williams, whose resignation as prosecuting attorney took effect March 5.
A graduate of Creighton University School of Law, Wilson began practicing law in Adair County after joining the Missouri public defender's office in 2004, and has tried both civil and felony and misdemeanor criminal cases. He currently operates his own practice, specializing in criminal defense and family law.
Before opening his solo practice, he was an associate with The Benson Law Firm in Kirksville. Wilson currently serves as vice-president of the board of directors of the Adair County Family YMCA and also is a board member for the Northeast Missouri Soccer Club.
"Matt Wilson has shown his capability in handling civil and criminal cases in northeast Missouri, and he also has been active in community leadership roles," Gov. Nixon said. "I am confident he will ably serve the people of Adair County as their prosecutor."
