Gov. Nixon appoints Circuit Judge Angela Quigless to Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. - Gov. Jay Nixon today announced the appointment of the Honorable Angela T. Quigless, of St. Louis, to the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District. Judge Quigless, who is a circuit judge on the 22nd Circuit in St. Louis City, will fill the vacancy on the appellate court created by the Governor's appointment of the Honorable George W. Draper to the Missouri Supreme Court.
Judge Quigless was first appointed as an associate circuit judge on the 22nd Circuit in 1995, and then was appointed as a circuit judge in 2003. On two occasions, she served as a special judge on the Missouri Supreme Court. During her tenure as a judge in St. Louis, she has presided over a variety of criminal and civil cases.
"With her many years of judicial experience, Judge Quigless is very well-qualified and I am pleased to appoint her to the appellate bench," Gov. Nixon said.
Judge Quigless is a 1984 graduate of the Saint Louis University School of Law, and a 1981 graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia. After graduating from law school, she was an attorney for the Missouri Department of Revenue and the Missouri Public Service Commission before becoming an assistant circuit attorney in St. Louis. Her trial experience as an assistant circuit attorney included serving as second chair on four death penalty cases. Judge Quigless also worked in the St. Louis City Counselor's office and as an assistant United States Attorney before her appointment to the bench.
In addition to her work with the state and local bar associations, Judge Quigless has been involved in several community activities in St. Louis, including leadership roles with organizations that support and mentor children. She is a founding member of the Metropolitan Autism Coalition and a member of the Gateway Chapter of the Autism Society of America.
Judge Quigless was one of three nominees for this judgeship submitted to Gov. Nixon by the Appellate Judicial Commission for the Missouri Court of Appeals, Eastern District, under the Missouri Nonpartisan Court Plan.
