Gov. Nixon makes board and commission appointments
JEFFERSON CITY - Gov. Jay Nixon today announced his appointments to eight boards and commissions. The appointees will be subject to confirmation by the Missouri Senate. The appointees, along with their boards and hometowns, are:
- Advisory Committee for 911 Service Oversight (Michael D. Hall - Hannibal; Mark S. Hasheider - Cape Girardeau; Nathan D. Preston - Branson; Danny R. Rowden - Wright City)
- Coordinating Board for Early Childhood (Paula D. Knight - St. Louis)
- Interior Design Council (Cynthia S. Curnutte - Rocheport)
- Linn State Technical College Board of Regents (J. Scott Christianson - Columbia)
- Missouri Brain Injury Advisory Council (Michael C. Rader - Kansas City)
- Missouri Emergency Response Commission (William S. Moriarty - Van Buren)
- Missouri Propane Gas Commission (Randy D. Warner - Kingsville)
- Missouri State Capitol Commission (Harold L. Caskey - Butler)
Advisory Committee for 911 Service Oversight
The Governor has re-appointed Michael D. Hall, of Hannibal; and appointed Mark S. Hasheider, of Cape Girardeau; Nathan D. Preston, of Branson; and Danny R. Rowden, of Wright City, to the Advisory Committee for 911 Service Oversight. The Committee on 911 Service Oversight aids in collecting and disseminating information relating to use of a universal emergency telephone number; reviews existing and proposed legislation; provides recommendations for model systems considered in preparing a model 911 service plan; and provides requested mediation services to political subdivisions involved in 911 jurisdictional disputes.
Hall has served as the executive director of Marion County 9-1-1 since July 2002 and has more than 20 years of law enforcement, public safety, and communications experience. The Governor has re-appointed him for a term ending April 9, 2015.
Hasheider is an assistant fire chief with the Cape Girardeau Fire Department, and has been with the department since 1985. He serves as emergency management director, coordinating the physical operation of the city's emergency operations. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending April 9, 2014.
Preston is the communications manager for the Taney County Ambulance District and has more than 12 years' experience in emergency management service. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending April 9, 2016.
Rowden is the director of the St. Charles County Department of Dispatch and Alarm, and has been with the department since 1998. He is a past chief of the Washington Police Department, and served as president of the Missouri Police Chiefs Association. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending April 9, 2016.
Coordinating Board for Early Childhood
The Governor has appointed Paula D. Knight, of St. Louis, to the Coordinating Board for Early Childhood. The Missouri Coordinating Board for Early Childhood is the state's public/private entity for coordinating a cohesive system of early childhood programs and services that will result in the healthy development of, and high quality education for, all Missouri children from birth through age five.
Knight is associate superintendent for the St. Louis Public School District, where she provides direct supervision of all elementary school principals as well as supervision of the Curriculum & Instruction and Early Childhood departments. She has been appointed for a term ending at the pleasure of the Governor.
Interior Design Council
The Governor has appointed Cynthia S. Curnutte, of Rocheport, to the Interior Design Council. The mission of the council is to ensure that individuals seeking the title of registered interior designer in Missouri meet the educational and experience qualifications for licensure, and to verify maintenance of this competency through ongoing continuing education.
Curnutte works for the University of Missouri in its Campus Facilities Department as an interior design associate. She has a degree in interior design from William Woods University and is a registered interior designer in Missouri and certified by the National Coalition for Interior Design. The Governor has appointed her for a term ending April 6, 2016.
Linn State Technical College Board of Regents
The Governor has appointed J. Scott Christianson (D), of Columbia, to the Linn State Technical College Board of Regents. The Linn State Technical College Board of Regents is the governing board for Linn State Technical College.
Christianson is the owner of Kaleidoscope Consulting, a business that specializes in providing network and videoconferencing products and support for businesses, K-12 schools and higher education institutions. He is an adjunct instructor at the Robert J. Trulaske Sr. College of Business at the University of Missouri. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending Dec. 29, 2015.
Missouri Brain Injury Advisory Council
The Governor has appointed Michael C. Rader, of Kansas City, to the Missouri Brain Injury Advisory Council. The Missouri Head Injury Advisory Council studies and makes recommendations to policy makers to improve, expand, coordinate and develop a service delivery system, including prevention, for survivors of head injury and their families.
Rader is a partner with the law firm of Bartimus Frickleton Robertson & Gorny, P.C. He has received the Missouri Bar Foundation's Lon O. Hocker Trial Lawyer Award. Rader received his undergraduate degree from the University of Missouri and his law degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending May 12, 2015.
Missouri Emergency Response Commission
The Governor has appointed William S. Moriarty (I), of Van Buren, to the Missouri Emergency Response Commission. The mission of the Missouri Emergency Response Commission is to protect public health and the environment by assisting communities with chemical incident prevention, preparedness, response and recovery; and by receiving, processing and reporting on chemical information received under the community right-to-know laws.
Moriarty is a retired lieutenant colonel with the U.S. Marine Corps, and currently a service officer with Post 3009 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he helps veterans who require the assistance of the Veterans Administration. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending Dec. 15, 2012.
Missouri Propane Gas Commission
The Governor has appointed Randy D. Warner, of Kingsville, to the Missouri Propane Gas Commission. The commission makes, promulgates and enforces regulations setting forth general standards on the design, construction, location, installation and operation of equipment for storing, handling and transporting liquefied petroleum gases.
Warner is vice president of safety for Ferrellgas Company, in Liberty, and served as vice chairman of the safety technical advisory committee of the Propane Education Research Council. He holds an applied science degree from ITT Technical Institute and has 13 years of experience in the propane industry. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending June 30, 2016.
Missouri State Capitol Commission
The Governor has appointed Harold L. Caskey, of Butler, to the Missouri State Capitol Commission. The commission's duties include the care of more than 120 pieces of art inside and around the capitol, many of which were carefully selected by earlier commissions to capture the beauty and significance of the state's past. These include murals, paintings, tapestries, sculptures, and stained glass windows. On the exterior and the grounds, there are an equivalent number of carvings, sculptures, fountains, and monuments. In addition to preserving existing artwork, the commission is responsible for the selection and placement of any new art pieces.
Caskey served seven terms in the Missouri State Senate, where he chaired the Civil and Criminal Jurisprudence Committee, and was a vice-chair, co-chair or member of numerous other committees, commissions or task forces. He was Bates County Prosecuting Attorney for three terms before serving in the Senate. The Governor has appointed him for a term ending April 18, 2016.
