Gov. Jay Nixon joined city and company leaders in breaking ground on a new corporate headquarters in Kansas City for the nation's largest online freight broker, Freightquote.com, on Aug. 14, 2012. The rapidly growing company will construct a new state-of-the-art headquarters and office facility at its new Missouri location.
When complete, Freightquote.com's new 200,000 square-foot facility and capital investment of $44 million will bring the company's corporate headquarters and business operations to Missouri. Building the state-of-the-art facility will create more than 200 construction jobs on the project, in addition to the 1,225 new Missouri jobs Freightquote.com plans to create within the next three years. In the fourth year of operation, the company plans to create an additional 125 new Missouri jobs, bringing its total employment in the Show-Me State to 1,350.
Freightquote.com, which has been listed as one of America's fastest-growing companies by Inc. 5000, could be eligible for a strategic economic incentive package from the state of Missouri if it meets the strict job creation and investment criteria of each program.
"Missouri's low and predictable taxes, trained and ready workforce, and long-term economic development strategy have made our state the best place in the Midwest to start, locate or expand a business," Gov. Nixon said. "We will continue to fight for every job, every day to put Missourians back to work and to keep our economy moving forward."
CNN-Money recently rated Missouri as the nation's sixth-best state for new business start-ups in its "10 Most Entrepreneurial States for 2011," with Missouri being the only Midwestern state in the Top 10. In addition, Missouri's state exports were up 15.4 percent during the first quarter of 2012 compared to 2011, a year when the state of Missouri set a record with $14.1 billion in export sales revenue.
