Governor Parson Honors State of Missouri Employees with Proclamation Declaring Public Service Recognition Week in Missouri

Jefferson City — Governor Mike Parson signed a proclamation to declare May 5-11, 2019, as Public Service Recognition Week in the State of Missouri to honor Missouri’s public servants during Public Service Recognition Week, which is celebrated nationally. The Governor’s proclamation comes after President Donald J. Trump declared Public Service Recognition Week for the United States.
Public Service Recognition Week is celebrated across the country from May 5-11 to thank Americans who serve the public at the national, state, and local government levels. The week honoring public servants has been observed the first full week of May every year since 1985.
“State of Missouri employees and public servants throughout our state have the great responsibility and privilege that comes with public service — to make a difference in people’s lives,” said Governor Mike Parson. “Public service is challenging, rewarding, and purposeful. At the State of Missouri, our purpose is to first and foremost take care of our fellow Missourians and provide them with the services they need. State employees carry out this duty selflessly, often for people they may never see, may never talk to, or may never meet.”
“Public service is an honorable pursuit. State of Missouri employees play important roles in the lives of our citizens in so many ways — keeping us safe, serving the less fortunate, protecting the environment, ensuring our communities are healthy, and more,” said Drew Erdmann, State of Missouri Chief Operating Officer. “The Governor’s proclamation is just one way we’re honoring state employees who work day in and day out to better serve the citizens of Missouri.”
“Public servants are driven by an inner desire to give back to others and offer a helping hand to anyone in need,” said Office of Administration Commissioner Sarah Steelman. “I see that every day working side-by-side with State of Missouri employees. Across our state, these public servants come to work ready, willing, and committed to serving their fellow Missourians. I’m happy to see the Governor honor their dedication with this proclamation.”
Governor Parson will continue to honor and recognize the committed public service of State of Missouri employees. He will join members of his Cabinet in celebrating the accomplishments of outstanding state employees at two upcoming ceremonies.
Governor Parson will hand out the Governor’s Award for Quality and Productivity during a special ceremony at 10 a.m., May 7, in the first floor rotunda of the Capitol. The Governor’s Award for Quality and Productivity is a team award recognizing service excellence, efficiency, innovation, process improvement, and employee ingenuity within Missouri state government.
State of Missouri Employees of the Month, who received the honor from May 2018 to April 2019, and the 2018 Missouri State Employee Award of Distinction recipients will be celebrated on Monday, May 13 during an evening reception at the Governor’s Mansion.
