USS Missouri Commissioning Committee
April 2, 2009

Gov. Jay Nixon welcomes crew members from the new USS Missouri and members of the USS Missouri Commissioning Committee to the Governor's Office on April 2, 2009. During the visit, the Governor highlighted his support of the efforts of the USS Missouri Commissioning Committee to raise funds to assist the new ship and her crew. The new USS Missouri, a Virginia-class nuclear submarine, will be completed and commissioned next year. She will be the fifth naval vessel to bear the name Missouri. On display behind the Governor is the silver punch bowl from the Battleship Missouri, the U.S. ship aboard which Japanese forces surrendered to Supreme Allied Commander Douglas MacArthur on Sept. 2, 1945.download
