Governor Eric Greitens has appointed Melissa Lawyer, of St. Joseph, as Circuit Judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit, which covers Andrew and Buchanan Counties.  She will replace the Honorable Randall Jackson, who retired earlier this year.

Melissa Lawyer is the Deputy City Attorney for the City of St. Joseph where she manages the City’s litigation.  She previously served as a staff attorney for Legal Aid of Western Missouri and as an adjunct professor at Missouri Western State University.  Lawyer holds a J.D. and a Master’s of Business Administration from the University of Missouri.

Lawyer, an active member of the community, volunteers her time to several civic and charitable organizations. She is currently the Chairwoman for the Family Guidance Center Board of Directors, a member of the Legal Aid of Western Missouri Advisory Board, and a member of The Junior League of St. Joseph.  In 2014, she received the YMCA Women of Excellence Emerging Leader Award.

“I am excited to appoint Melissa Lawyer as Circuit Judge for the 5th Judicial Circuit,” said Governor Greitens.   “She has devoted her career to public service, and I am confident she will serve the people of Andrew and Buchanan Counties with the same devotion as circuit judge.”
