Governor Parson to Tour Carl Junction Subdivision Devastated Wednesday Night by Severe Storms

Jefferson City — This afternoon, Governor Mike Parson will tour one of the southwest Missouri areas that sustained the heaviest damage during Wednesday night’s severe storms. Governor Parson will view damage and meet with residents of the Briarbrook subdivision at 2:15 p.m. The media are invited to attend.

Earlier Thursday, the Governor met with first responders who conducted search and rescue operations in Jefferson City, toured damaged neighborhoods and businesses there, and met with Capital City storm survivors. The Governor also toured damaged areas in Eldon and met with first responders there, including Eldon Police Chief Brian Kidwell and Miller County Sheriff Louie Gregoire. At 9th Street Christian Church in Eldon, the Governor met with a group of volunteers who are already working to assist their neighbors affected by the storms there. Missourians are encouraged to stay clear of damaged areas as emergency personnel and utility crews work to help communities recover.

The Governor also spoke by phone with family members of the Golden City residents who lost their lives.

“The damage these tornadoes and severe storms cause is simply devastating, but I have been encouraged and inspired by the resilience and spirit of the storm survivors I’ve been fortunate to meet with today,” Governor Parson said. “In a time of tragedy, Missourians once again came together and supported and cared for their neighbors, and our first responders acted with speed and skill to rescue survivors.”

Due to the severe weather damage and flooding of parking lots, non-essential state employees in the Jefferson City area who were instructed to remain home on Thursday should also not report to work on Friday. Jefferson City state employees should expect to return to work on Tuesday unless otherwise instructed.

Governor Parson will participate in a media briefing in Carl Junction following his tour of damage and meeting with residents.
